‘’We rise, we fall and we revive with Him.”
Around 50 youths flocked into the Loyola Hall of St Francis Xavier right after the sunset mass on the 2 March 2019 ended. As a humble act of welcoming the Lent season, Bahasa Catholic Student Society (CSSBM) had organised their first gathering for 2019. This event was attended by the members of CSSBM itself, Catholic Students Society of University Malaya (CSSUM), Yang Diutus (YD) and a group of students from Tun Tan Cheng Lock College. The session began with ‘Praise and Worship’ which was led by the catechumens from the Bahasa Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (BM RCIA). After the rejuvenating ‘Praise and Worship’, Lenten Formation was conducted by Anita Sanie, the coordinator of CSSBM. In this session, Anita, or familiarly known as Sis Anita among the CSSBM members, shared about the Lenten observance in light of the Laudato Si. After the fruitful sharing by Sis Anita, the session was continued with another eye-opening talk entitled, ‘Self-Centric’ by Raven Paul. The youths were so intrigued with the talk as they listened attentively when Raven explained explicitly about the how we can break open and free from egocentrism during Lent. His sharing session ended with Q&A which he managed to answer nonchalantly.
As a conclusion, it can be simplified that Lent is not merely about abstaining ourselves from meat. It is about reflecting, preparing and repenting. It is the season discover God’s love and give up anything that hinders the discovery. It is about our spiritual growth. It is about the the revival of our faith.
