A walk in the park - St Anne’s BEC

It was fitting that on a day in which we had gathered to marvel and enjoy God's creation, He blessed us with clear skies and a refreshing breeze.

We gathered at Taman Aman at 8.30am on 8 April and Paschal, our Chief Coordinator of SS2 St Anne's BEC gave us prayer leaflets. We began our session by thanking God for being our wonderful Creator and for the creation of Mother Earth.

Then, we moved to a more spacious ground to start our light stretching exercise which I led. The exercise session then ended with a short meditation.....focusing and helping us to open our hearts and minds, to truly see the beauty of the environment gifted to us by God!

After a good warm up session, we took a walk around the park, led by one of our BEC members, who is a park club member. Whilst admiring the landscape and different plants, we too were made to experience every part of the park, including its living creatures such as butterflies, insects and fishes.

Along the walk, we learned about various species of plants from the information display stand and from our own botanist, Dr Lee Boon Siew.

With a good 45 minutes work out of walking around the park, we sat down to a hearty breakfast of nasi lemak kukus, homemade curry puffs and kuih. It was truly a wonderful time of fellowship, with lots of fun and laughter.

After breakfast, Paschal gave us a short lesson on “Laudato Si” (Pope Francis’ teaching on the environment) and provided notes for us to take home to gain further understanding on this encyclical. To end our BEC outing, Ping Ping (Paschal's wife), surprised us with a delightful gift for us to take home - potted vegetable seeds and various other types of seeds, challenging and encouraging us to really walk the talk of “Laudato Si”. Finally at about 10.50am, we ended with a beautiful prayer of our promise to take care of nature, and our gratitude to God for his creation.

It was truly a refreshing and wonderful outing, as the event really opened our eyes and drew us closer to Him through our appreciation of His creation. It was also great to experience brotherly and sisterly love and friendship among the members of the BEC.
