St Ignatius BEC discusses Lent ‘To Do’ list
St Ignatius BEC (Sections 16/17B) got together to discuss and share ideas on our ‘To Do’ list for this Lent inspired by the theme of “Following the way of Christ’. The 18 of us began the session with our Social Concerns couple, Alex & Annie, leading us in prayer welcoming and thanking God for all present and for the Holy Spirit to be among us.
We watched the Lenten campaign video for inspiration and to focus on ways of almsgiving. The video is produced by the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development.
We then broke into 2 groups to share our thoughts. Some of the points that came up were:
The plight of the homeless and feeding programmes initiated by various caring groups from other religious bodies.
In our own BEC, the Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion shared about how homebound seniors we often lonely, in pain and frustrated.
I shared on the plight of migrants (adults and children) in our midst in Section 17; a few hundred mostly from Myanmar with families living in surrounding areas. They are in need of some household goods and gardening tools since they want to plant vegetables.
After much dialogue among ourselves, we agreed to:
visit our homebound seniors during Lent and to bring a gift like fruits with us.
to source for gardening tools and for anyone with gardening skills to help.
to sponsor two stoves for the Myanmar families.
It was suggested that we contribute more ideas towards the above aid when we meet up in Collin & Tina's home for our next BEC gathering to pray the Stations of the Cross on Wednesday 22 March.
We thanked Alex & Annie for opening their home for this Lenten Campaign 2017 discussion and for providing food for the evening. We really felt the Holy Spirit among us.
