We are a support group for widows led by widows.

Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for widows to be themselves, come together and share their experiences, offer encouragement and comfort, and build a sense of community.

Our Message to Widows:

We will LISTEN to you… even when you find yourself repeating the same things over and over again.

We will LISTEN to you… even when others have told you to “move on”.

As fellow widows, we understand that:

  • All widows grieve differently.
  • There is no set timeline for healing.
  • The festive seasons may be a difficult time for you.

Through our regular fellowship gatherings, we aim to offer a non-judgmental space where you can speak honestly about your feelings and receive support from those who truly understand what you are going through.

We also run a “buddy” system which involves pairing each widow with another member of Widow to Widow, who would become their "buddy." The buddies would be responsible for checking in on each other regularly, providing a listening ear, and offering encouragement and support.

If you decide that it may benefit you to speak to a trained counsellor, we offer referrals to professional counsellors who are experienced in helping widows navigate through their grief journey.

We are committed to creating a community that uplifts and empowers one another. Whether you have recently lost a spouse or are further along in your grief journey, we welcome you to join us and find solace in the company of others who understand.

Volunteers needed

Are you a widow seeking to make a positive impact in the lives of other widows? No matter how much time you can spare, your contribution will be invaluable to those who need it most.

We are looking for widows who are willing to volunteer their time in providing emotional support and practical assistance to their fellow widows. Experience is not required - all you need is a compassionate heart and a desire to help others.

If you're interested, we would love to tell you more about how you can get involved and make a difference today.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone's welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes – you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

Food

Whether it's a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It's no different at Alpha. Most sessions start with food, because it's a great way to build community and get to know each other.

Talk

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

Discussion

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There's no obligation to say anything and there's nothing you can't say (seriously). It's an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment

CARE FOR CREATION

In his encyclical Laudato Si, Pope Francis challenges us to Care for Our Common Home by growing in the theological virtues of faith, hope and charity. This means growing and living in a healthy relationship with God, with our neighbours and all creation.

The Care for Creation (C4C) Ministry in St Francis Xavier aims to fulfil its mission by addressing five areas of concern with a genuine hope to raise awareness, inspire change and drive action.

Our Mission: TOWARDS BECOMING AN ECOLOGICAL CITIZEN AND ECOLOGICAL PARISH

Our efforts are namely in these 5 areas:

1) Liturgy, Prayer & Spiritual Resources

Since all our efforts need to be grounded in prayer, the ministry’s liturgy, prayer and spiritual resources team will look at incorporating relevant intercessions and prayers within the Mass and prepare para-liturgical celebrations.

2) Education and Awareness

This team will be tasked to create awareness and catechise adult parishioners to understand what it means to Care for Creation within the context of Catholic’s Social Teachings and Stewardship of the Earth. Also, to highlight how we can make good choices as stewards of creation within our local church, communities and homes.

3) Religious Education (RE)

To ensure the children and youth play an equally important role, this team will be tasked to work alongside Religious Education to catechise and create awareness, as well as engage them in simple but concrete activities.

4) Major and Minor Projects

This team will be tasked to coordinate the implementation of major and minor projects.

5) Training and Certification

Training and the eventual certification of our church is an end goal of this team. For a start, we will be conducting training courses to various church ministries and eventually to all parishioners via online platforms and face-to-face.
